Ferry Services Around Mallorca

Published in Getting around

There are approximately 79 ferries between Mallorca and other destinations every week, most of them to mainland Spain.

There are also more local ferries that run from Palma to Ibiza, Alcudia to Menorca and Palma to Formentera. No matter which island you rent your Balearic Villas luxury property, you can move quite easily between all of the Balearic Islands, using the comprehensive network of ferries.

Using the local ferries to island hop is a great way to see all of the Balearic Isles. There is so much to occupy tourists that many come back year after year so they can continue with the experiences they did not manage to fit in before.

There are also ferry connections to Tenerife, Lanzarote, La Palma and Fuerteventura, all of which leave from Palma ferry port, although these are not as frequent as the other services.

There are only two ways to get to any of the Balearic Isles, either by plane or ferry. The ferry is becoming increasingly popular. Tourists are starting to see the journey as part of their holiday rather than just being in a rush to reach their destination. These days the ferries are comfortable and have many amenities; it is a pleasure to travel on them. This coupled with the favourable prices on offer mean they are becoming much more of a competitor for the flight operators.

Bicycles and sports equipment are generally allowed on ferries at no extra cost and some of the operators offer reduced fares for children. Depending on the time of year, most of them have special deals for groups and families that are worth taking advantage of. Some of the ferries allow pets, but you should check with the operators before booking your trip.

There are three types of ferries operating in the Balearic Isles. There are a few older style ferries, these are the slowest, and only a few remain in service. Then there are the faster more modern ferries and catamarans. The time difference on the different types of ferries is quite significant. Using Palma to Ibiza as an example, the trip would take five and a half hours on a standard ferry, two and a half hours on a fast ferry and just under two hours on a catamaran.

Whether you rent your luxury villa in Pollenca (Mallorca), Cala Bosch (Menorca) Sant Rafel (Ibiza), or anywhere else in the Balearics, you can be assured you will have the highest quality service from Balearic Villas.
