Ariany is one of the smallest villages on Mallorca, with a population of just over 700 residents
Despite its size, it is well connected to everywhere else on the island. The picturesque village sits towards the north of the island and is close to the neighbouring towns of Santa Margalida, Marie de la Salut, and Petra.
Village life centres around the church, with agriculture being the main source of income. The medieval buildings are still in use today and the area is well known for its windmills. Many of them have been well preserved and are still in use.
Its size means Ariany is not packed with tourist attractions, but its location does make it a very good base. Its traditional charm and culture make it a popular location with tour operators as a day trip.
Hiring a car is essential if you want to stay somewhere like Ariany, so you can easily travel the few kilometers to the varying places of interest that surround it. Although there is public transport in the form of the main bus to Manacor, this does not run very often, and also means you’re tied to the bus timetable.
Out and About
Within a short travelling distance from Ariany are the towns of Sineu, Manacor, Petra, Muro, Sant Joan and many others. These are just a few of the towns nearby that offer many different attractions. There are fascinating caves to visit, some of which have classical music concerts on the lakes within them. The beaches are safe and sandy, ideal for children to play, and there are enough shops for even the most die-hard shopaholics.
There is at least one market every day of the week on Mallorca, many of them selling fresh produce that has been locally grown. You will also find leather goods and jewellery that are unique, as the islands craftsmen have made it especially for sale in the markets and local shops.
In the area immediately around Ariany there is a market every day, except Sundays, but if you don’t mind travelling a bit further, there are nine markets held on Sundays on other parts of the island.
