Walk the roads of history in Binissalem
If you’re looking to discover more about the roots of the island during a holiday in Mallorca, a stay in a holiday villa in Binissalem is the perfect place to start.
There are many cultural points of interest to be found here, with wine production being chief among them. Binissalem is famed for wine production, after the Romans introduced it having conquered the island in 121 BC. Today, wine lovers flock to this part of the island to sample wines made from the Manto Negro, Mallorca’s local grape variety, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The Romans left quite a mark on this part of the island, something that can be seen in the town’s layout and street names. Binassalem is a pleasant place to discover on foot, with many walking trails throughout the countryside, as well as streets filled with cafes and shops in town.
There is plenty in the way of history and architecture to be enjoyed. The Church of Santa Maria of Robins is a majestic Gothic building situated in the heart of the Church Square, and can be admired for miles around the town centre. The Municipal Government named Binissalem a “historic-artistic site” in 1983, meaning there is no future development allowed to take place amongst the old buildings here, many of which date back to the 18th century. As such, it is a wonderful place to explore if you are looking to enjoy a quiet, authentic, historic town during your holiday in Mallorca.
