Cala Ratjada Holiday Villas and Apartments for rent. Self catering luxury properties selected for you.
Ratjada is situated in a rocky, hilly area of the island about 80 kilometers from Palma Airport.
It is an historic fishing village, which until the tourism boom of the 1970’s was largely untouched for centuries, and it is still the second most important fishing village on Mallorca.
The tourism bought with it the need for more buildings, which have been built around the outside of the old town making sure that none of the charm of Ratjada was lost.
From the harbour there are boat trips to the nearby resorts of Porto Cristo and Cala Millor as well as a speedboat service that will take you to the nearby island of Menorca.
The historic lobster houses are protected and still in use, these white square buildings keeping the lobsters alive till they are sold.
The town is surrounded by 60,000 square metres of parkland, but it received much damage in a heavy storm in 2001. It was restored and officially re opened in 2010 by the King and Queen of Spain. A short walk through the woods will take you to the lighthouse at Punta de Capdepera.
Watersports of all kinds are available in Ratjada, the clear waters making it perfect for snorkeling.
The beaches are of white sands and within a very short distance there are the bays of Cala Agulla, Son Moll, Cala Gat and Coves d’Arta. Ratjada is very family orientated while still managing to cater for all ages, even the night howlers will find plenty of clubs and late night bars in the town.
The town of Arta is worth seeing, if for no other reason than its vast history. It has fortress walls that are over a meter thick and have nine towers. Inside the walls is a church that is a favourite with pilgrims because of a Roman statue carved in wood of the Virgin Mary. This colourful piece of art attracts visitors from many parts of the island and Europe.
The small museum in Arta has a collection of Roman coins, tools and jewelry, which were all found locally.
Cycling is very popular on Mallorca and there is a mountain bike trail from Ratjada that takes you through Arta and on to Canyamel. The trail is about 40km and will give the rider several hills to climb and descend.
