Soller - A Quick Guide
The achingly pretty old town of Soller is often regarded as one the most beautiful on the island. It’s a tranquil rural sort of place where much centres on the surrounding orange groves and the harvest of its famous fruit.
The town lies in a delightful spot between the spectacular Tramuntana Mountains of western Mallorca, and the deep blue Mediterranean Sea. Life tends to revolve around the pretty central square, Placa Consitucio, where the numerous bars, cafés and restaurants vie for trade.
The area around Soller is absolutely ideal for renting a holiday home, particularly if you like walking, cycling or just exploring the flora and fauna of this delightful part of Mallorca. It’s also a bit of a foodies’ paradise.
At Balearic-villas.com have a superb choice of holiday villas, traditional townhouses and apartments available to rent here at a wide range of prices.
Here’s a guide to some of the sights and sounds of Soller to help you make the most of your dream holiday.
Placa Constitucio – this small central square is the beating heart of Soller. Large, ancient plane trees and bustling cafes and bars, act as the perfect backdrop to the impressive neo-gothic St Bartomeu church.
Soller Antique Train – links with the capital Palma. The 28-kilometre narrow gauge rail journey on a delightful vintage brass and mahogany train is one of Mallorca's most popular tourist attractions, and also one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Europe.
Station Master’s House – this small quaint building at the Soller train terminus has been transformed into a miniature art gallery featuring works by Picasso and Miro.
Banco de Soller – appreciate this modernist architectural masterpiece designed by a follower of the eccentric architect, Gaudi.
Fet a Soller – a delightful little shop selling local produce such as olives, nuts, wine, fruit juices and the fabulous Soller orange jam!
Museu Balear de Ciencies Naturals – the Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences has both a permanent collection featuring an assortment of island rocks and fossils, as well as a revolving exhibition. The attractive Botanic Garden outside shows a variety of plants native to Mallorca.
Can Prunera Museu Modernista – see displays of Modernista fittings and furnishings as well as sketches by international artists.
Puerto Soller - the beautiful horseshoe shaped beach resort of Puerto Soller is just a short distance away and well worth a visit, particularly via the ancient tram (locally known as the ‘Orange Express’) which rattles down to the port area every half hour.
Deia Archaeological Museum - located in a converted old mill in Deia, just a short drive away, the museum is one of the oldest buildings in the village. It mainly features archaeological discoveries of prehistoric items found in local caves and sites.
Sa Fira I es Firo – feisty fiesta held in the second week of May every year to commemorate the vanquishing of invading Arab pirates in 1561. A rather spectacular knees-up!

One headland after another opened up magnificently.” So more than one hundred years later it’s little wonder that the magnificent ridge of mountains that stretches the length of Mallorca’s northwest shoreline attracts walkers worldwide.
