If you’re organising a family holiday in Mallorca, there are a number of estates and country houses to explore during your stay.

A number of these houses have now been made into museums, giving you a glimpse into the lives of inhabitants, as well as into the history of the surrounding area. Son Marroig

If you are staying in a holiday in Mallorca is in Deia, you are near to Son Marroig, the former home of Archduke Ludwig Salvador. Also available to hire as a wedding venue, Son Morroig is beautifully positioned overlooking the Mediterranean waters. Visitors can learn about the Archduke before taking in the spectacular scenery.

Camp d’En Prohom (Soller Botanical Gardens)

The breathtaking botanical gardens of Soller are found within the estate of Camp d’En Prohom. The gardens belonging to the mansion are worthy of exploration in their own right, while the house is now The Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences.

Ca’n Prunera

Also located in Soller, Ca’n Prunera is an impressive modernist house that is now home to a museum of modern art. Visitors can explore the works of Picasso, Matisse and Chillada, as well as local artists inspired by the modernist movement. This beautiful house was a family home from completion in 1911 until 2006, and is a must-see for architecture and art enthusiasts.

Raixa Estate

This stunning country estate is nestled at the foot of the Tramuntana mountain range, and dates back to the early 13th century. The estate is comprised of numerous homes, expansive gardens and a large pond, as well as numerous look-out points from which the beautiful scenery can be admired. Walkways, imitation ruins and temples surround the houses, providing plenty to do and discover during a day trip to this estate in Bunyola.

Can Lis

Danish architect Jorn Utzon built Can Lis and made it his home in the 1970s, and it has since drawn praise from architecture enthusiasts around the world. This magnificent house is built into the cliffs of Porto Petro, and was considered ahead of it’s time due to the angles and lighting used. Those appreciative of beautiful buildings should plan a trip to this, one of the more modern houses on the island.
