Mallorca Guide

Beaches and Bays

Published in Island information

No matter what you’re after from your beach holiday, Mallorca caters for your needs.

Whether you want:

  • A secluded beach with privacy for a spot of sunbathing
  • A quiet unspoilt bay where there is unlikely to be many other people
  • A beach with facilities
  • A resort beach with fun and games for the whole family
  • A beach with boat trips

Or any other sort of beach, bay or cove, you will find it here on Mallorca. The island has nearly 200 beaches, some tiny and some huge, but all with the clear blue sea of the Mediterranean.

Some of the sands are golden and some of them are white. Whichever they are, they are among the safest beaches you will find, with fully trained and experienced lifeguards, if there is any potential risk at all.

The beaches in the tourist areas have sun umbrellas and loungers for hire for a reasonable charge, and most of them have disabled access.

Going to the other extreme, there are beaches and bays that are only accessible by foot or boat, and as beautiful as they are you need to be prepared when visiting them, as they have no facilities at all. You need to make sure you take plenty of fluids with you to these beaches, as otherwise you could well become dehydrated in the hot sun.

Mallorca is an island with something for everyone

From busy beaches packed with water-sports, to hidden gems waiting to be discovered, there’s something for everyone.

At the north of the island you have the long stretches of golden sands belonging to Puerto Pollenca and Alcudia, with smaller bays separating the two beaches. They are both popular with water sport enthusiasts, as well as being ideal beaches for families. Both the towns offer an excellent array of foods, with something to tempt everyone.

On the southern end of the island there are many resort beaches, as this is where the bulk of tourists tend to congregate. The beaches of Magaluf, Santa Ponsa, Palma Nova and Portals Nous are just of few of the beaches that offer all sorts of activities in addition to the superb sunbathing.

The more secluded beaches and bays tend to be on the east and west coasts. The ones on the west coast in particular are not always easy to get to unless you are comfortable driving along narrow, steep and winding roads through the mountains. As an example, the bay of Sa Calobra is one of the most stunning on the island, but for many it is easier to access by boat rather than risk the drive.

Then there are places like Puerto Soller and Deia, both on the west coast and both with main roads to them.

To the east you will find the beaches of Cala d’Or and Porto Christo amongst many others including Cala Millor, which is a beach with white soft sand and shallow water, providing a fabulous and safe area for children.

When you stay in you luxury Balearic Villas property, you will get to enjoy the fabulous climate we enjoy here in the heart of the Mediterranean. If you want to explore more, then the beaches and bays are well worth the journey.
