Water Activities in Mallorca
Mallorca is the perfect place for a holiday in a luxury villa rental if you are a lover of everything to do with watersports! The sub tropical climate coupled with beautiful coastline and crystal clear waters make Mallorca the number one choice for an action packed annual holiday.
Whether you are a keen novice or an expert, there is no end to the different types of water sports available to the visitor.
Mallorca is an island loved by the sailing fraternity. Apart from Palma itself, there are dozens of ports all around the coastline in which to drop anchor; after tourism, yachting is Majorca´s second largest industry. These ports range from quite rustic like Club Maritim Molinar in Portixol, where you can observe simple sailing craft – right up to big and glitzy Puerto Portals and Port Adriano where the rich and the Royal moor up in their super yachts.
For a less expensive day at sea, most of the urban beaches are well served with pedalos, banana boats and jetskis – but if you fancy something a little more adventurous, then read on.
If windsurfing or kite surfing is your sport of choice, Can Pastilla to the east side of the bay of Palma, is extremely popular because of it´s broad expanse and if you´re lucky, strong winds. Also popular for wind surfing in the north of the island are the bays of Alcudia and Pollensa. You don´t need to worry about packing your equipment, there are lots of places to hire everything you need at reasonable prices. www.watersportsmallorca.com Tel 606353807
Son Serra de Marina over on the east coast is also very popular for kite surfing because of the wind and the wide open bay – particularly useful when learning to kite surf!
If you fancy trying your hand at scuba diving, Mallorca is the place to do it. With 550 kilometres of beautiful coastline, there are numerous schools around the island offering PADI tuition and/or hire equipment. Peterdiving in Illetas. www.peterdiving.com Tel 971 752026. There are also many sailing schools all around the island where you can get tuition in sailing a kayak, or for something more serious, RYA tuition is available for the most basic course, right up to skipper.
Paddle boarding is a popular sport on the island and so too is wakeboarding. Alcudia is fortunate to have a wakeboarding park on a lake, which offers an easier option when learning the sport. www.mallorca-cableski.com Tel: 666448922
Whatever sport you want to take part in – whatever your level of expertise, with over 300 days of sunshine – give or take a few – Mallorca really can offer everyone from the novice to the adrenaline junkie a perfect water sport break.
